Analysis of the scientific production of the University of Holguin in Scopus

Abstract

Introduction: The production of new knowledge and innovative research can provide solutions and tools to address the challenges faced by nations today.

Objective: To analyze the scientific production of the Universidad de Holguín in the Scopus database between 1999-2022.

Methods: It was conducted a descriptive bibliometric study to measure scientific production through indicators of output, impact, and collaboration.

Results: The most researched fields were mathematics, computer science and social sciences, while the least researched were economics, econometrics and finance, agricultural and biological sciences and neurosciences. Abreu-Blaya was the most prolific author, while Ronda-Pupo was the one with the greatest impact in her field of research by the number of citations. An analysis of citations by year showed a decreasing trend. The Universidad de Holguín collaborated with several countries, especially Spain and Mexico. Finally, the most relevant sources were “Lecture Notes in Computer Science” and the journal “Universidad y Sociedad”.

Conclusions: The results can serve as a basis for decision-making regarding research policy and funding, highlighting the importance of promoting quality research and collaboration with other countries to maintain the university's relevance and leadership in this field. Further research could explore the reasons behind the decreasing trend in citations per year, the impact of collaboration on the university's scientific output, as well as the factors that most affect it.
