Discurso reinauguración Paraninfo Acedemia de Ciencias de Cuba
Abstract
Por capricho de la historia, concurren en esta fecha dos importantes efemérides, aunque de signo contrario: como todo buen cubano sabe, este día en 1895, cayó en combate deseado el Mayor General José Julián Martí y Pérez. Me detengo en el grado militar porque soy de los convencidos de que su investidura como tal no fue para nada un acto formal, y ni por asomo un gesto de complacencia. No era en modo alguno proclive a regalar graciosamente grados militares el Generalísimo Máximo Gómez; mucho menos de esa alta jerarquía. Habrá que apreciar por tanto en su decisión de otorgarlo a Martí un profundo acto de justicia, asentado en el respeto y reconocimiento hacia la vida de sacrificio, prédica, conspiración y organización de quien para entonces era el jefe civil indiscutido del movimiento articulador dela guerra necesaria, cuyos méritos eran conocidos y respetados por los patriotas cubanos de varias generaciones.Downloads
