Toxoplasmosis ocular. Algunos hallazgos clínicos y seroepidemiológicos

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio de corte transversal durante un año en el Instituto Cubano de Oftalmología “Ramón Pando Ferrer” (ICO), con el objetivo de identificar casos de toxoplasmosis ocular. Los pacientes que presentaron sintomatología y lesiones compatibles con toxoplasmosis ocular se les realizó un ensayo inmunoenzimático (ELISA-IgG), así como se indagó sobre antecedentes epidemiológicos y se les indicó tratamiento específico. Los resultados muestran que en los 40 casos con lesiones características de toxoplasmosis ocular y seropositivos a la infección con Toxoplasma gondii, predominaron adolescentes y adultos jóvenes. Se encontró asociación estadística entre la condición de tener toxoplasmosis ocular y la convivencia con gatos o exposición a sus excretas así como ser trabajador de riesgo. Todos los casos inactivaron sus lesiones con los diferentes esquemas de tratamiento empleado; sin embargo, el 52,5 % de ell os, quedaron con secuelas. Los resultados contribuyen a conocer el comportamiento de esta enfermedad, la cual puede provocar discapacidad, que puede ser tra nsitoria o permanente, incluyendo a los niños.
