Abstract

Since its inception, scientists around the world have worked tirelessly in the development of new therapeutic alternatives that promote the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The historical-logical method was used, with the support of the document review technique in the period from March to August 2020. The information collected from clinical investigations registered in the clinicaltrials.gov database was reviewed; also the website of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Cuban public registry of clinical trials. Research is currently being carried out and registered in the international clinicallatrials.gov database related to therapeutic alternatives for COVID-19. 3015 investigations from 115 countries were registered until August 25, 2020. Of these, 53 investigations are observational and 698 are interventional studies (11 of these are investigations of expanded clinical use and the rest are clinical trials). 402 research products are under study. Twenty-one investigations, 5 observational ones and 16 clinical trials have been registered in Cuba, and the emerging use of CIGB 258, Jusvinza, and the nasopharyngeal swab as health technology.
