Unsustainable farming practices, pollution and overfishing affect their availability for the present and future. Consequently, a research result that harmonizes the use of PER methodology in the selection of indicators by thematic areas and their estimation is presented, settling a Sustainable Development Index (SDI), to assess the ecosystem Mountains Guamuhaya, Cienfuegos. These analyses were inputs to develop a methodology for economic valuation of environmental goods and services and environmental damage, which constitutes the basis for sustainable mountain development.
Methods: Expert method, economic valuation methods, technical DAFO, Instruction Methodology for Territorial Planning, mathematical and statistical tools Prospectiva.
Results: IDS is implemented in the computer system SISNAM evaluating the ecosystem and less sustainable. Strategic actions are proposed; identifying the most representative ecosystem services and their economic value is estimated. Scenarios and strategic actions are obtained to promote sustainable development with Horizon 2025. Conclusions: Although there have been actions to reverse the current state of the Guamuhaya ecosystem, they are still insufficient. In the betting scenario, two governing policies are to consider: profitability and investment. Services and benefits from the ecosystem provide humans with production alternatives, food sources and raw materials, as well as recreational, learning, and cultural options; also opportunities for the defense of the country.
