Villa Clara in the Cuban scientific eclosion. XVIIIth and XIXth century

Introduction: This article reveals the personalities born in the current province or closely related to it and the most important scientific institutions, that made contributions to the territorial scientific development in the frame of the Cuban scientific movement eclosion and throughout the XIXth century.
Objective: To specify the origin and development of the Villa Clara scientific movement in the period of the emergence of science in Cuba.
Methods: It was applied the historical method supported by the documentary review technique and interviews with key informants. They were analyzed documents from the Provincial Historical Archive, the Rare funds of the Provincial Library José Martí, the existing issues of the Villa Clara Médica magazine and the provincial press of the time. It was carried out methodological triangulation to arrive at integrating considerations.
Results: They were identified the antecedents of the development of sciences in Villa Clara and the way important institutions and personalities arose at the end of the XVIIIth century and the beginning of the XIXth century, creating the foundations for the future scientific development of the territory.
Conclusions: The current province of Villa Clara had an early scientific development represented by important figures and institutions that laid the foundations for the future development of sciences in the central zone of the country, especially in Santa Clara.Downloads
