Characteristics and advantages of multi-stakeholder cooperative

Introduction: Cooperative business models have evolved towards the integration of different stakeholders in the decision-making process, which means the emergence of a new type of cooperative. Objective: To explain the characteristics of multi-stakeholder cooperatives, their advantages and usefulness. Development:methodsThey were analyzed International Coo-perative Alliance normative documents, books, manuals, peer-reviewed journal articles, sta-tistical reports and legal norms. It was selected relevant information according to the objec-tive of the study. Results: Multi-stakeholder cooperatives integrate workers, consumers and legal entities in a decision-making board. When appropriate rules and limits are stablished in the association ́s statutes, synergy allows economic planning aimed at satisfying needs and access to investment capital, as well as strengthening the community and environmental awareness of the members. Conclusions: The conceptualization of the Cuban Economic and Social Development Model could further focus its strategies on the development of coope-ratives of all types and the social solidarity economy in general, using the multi-stakeholder cooperative as the main economic actor, so that Collective enterprises play a central role in overcoming the negative externalities caused by private companies and in the formation of a citizen culture with an emancipatory natureDownloads
