Abstract

The prevalence of COVID-19 has posed a great threat to people´s health worldwide, bringing a big challenge to the public healthcare systems. COVID-19 is associated to a complex inflammatory process with systemic implications. The objective of this article is to gather scientific evidence of COVID-19 disease and its effects on the cardiovascular system. In order to accomplish the objective, information was searched on web pages of the World Health Organization, the Interamerican Cardiology Society, the American College of Cardiology, Infosalud, Infomed, and databases such as Scielo, PubMed, Redalyc, Medline and Medscape. It can be concluded that previous myocardial damage or that induced by COVID-19 is a sign of adverse prognosis.
