Abstract

A new, highly pathogenic and lethal coronavirus was described in Wuhan (China) with a high number of patients with respiratory symptoms and severe pneumonia with high lethality. Its spread was very fast to other countries and COVID-19, the disease it causes, is considered a pandemic. Due to the neurotropism of this agent, various neurological disorders related to COVID-19 were reported, which could worsen the prognosis and, among them, cerebrovascular disease. This, in turn, is a global health problem, due to its incidence, prevalence and mortality. The cases and case reports that have been described so far are pointed out, with an analysis of the possible pathophysiological involvement. Attention is drawn to the reduction in reported cases of cerebrovascular disease, without a casuistic endorsement, and an alert is sounded regarding its occurrence and related risk factors.
