Abstract

Introduction: Previous research on the Don Mario and INCASOY-27 cultivars demonstrated an improvement in the nodulation and growth of soybean plants with the addition of chitosan compounds. However, it is not known, the best chitosan concentration and application form that enhance the development of these Bradyrhizobium sp. inoculated cultivars.

Objective: To determine the influence of different chitosaccharides application forms and concentrations on germination, nodulation, nutrition, biochemistry, growth and yields of Signum® or Azofert®-S inoculated plants.

Methods: They were studied the addition of chitosan with the bacterial inoculant to the seed prior to sowing and the foliar spray of inoculated plants in crop physio-biochemistry, growth and yield under different experimental conditions.

Results: Chitosaccharide concentrations studied were compatible with inoculants in bacteria surviving, germination and quality of biostimulant postreated seeds on in vitro conditions. Chitosan foliar spray stimulates most of physiological markers in both cultivars at V4 stage, under controlled conditions and the cv INCASOY-27 growth in greenhouse and field, from 100 to 1000 mg L-1, compared to no growth stimulation with seed treatment. In turn, both chitosan application forms benefitted crop grain yield, mainly, with 100 and 500 mg L-1 to the seed and 500 and 1000 mg L-1 by foliar spray.

Conclusions: They were obtained the biggest yield increments (60 %) with 100 mg L-1 (dose of 0,1 g ha-1) of the polymer combined with the inoculant to the seeds, consequently, being the most effective and feasible treatment.
